Can I make my own AeroGarden pods?

An AeroGarden grows plants without soil. An easy way to reduce the ongoing expense for new plantings is to make your own AeroGarden seed pods. Luckily, this is not too difficult—especially if you keep some of the parts from your first batch of seed pods.

Can you use other pods in AeroGarden?

Yes, you can mix different types of plants together if you prune them as needed to manage growth. Herbs, Flowers and Salads are easiest to mix and match together.

Can you grow AeroGarden without pods?

Yes, you can! For this purpose we offer our Grow Anything Kit, which comes with everything you need to plant and grow EXCEPT the seeds: grow baskets, grow sponges, labels, domes, liquid plant food, and a Grow Anything Kit Guide, which contains general suggestions for planting.

Can I use sponge for hydroponics?

Hydroponics involves growing plants without soil. You can certainly use sponges to start seeds for hydroponics, but they will need a different medium to grow into full-fledged plants that you can get a good harvest from.

Why is my AeroGarden molding?

Sometimes people notice a white fuzz developing on the surface of their grow sponges. This is probably a beneficial fungi, and is in fact, a sign of healthy, organic, biological activity. The beneficial fungi will soon disappear from view as your AeroGarden plants outcompete it for light, nutrients and water.

What PODS work with AeroGarden?

The EZ-gro seed pod is perfectly sized to fit in your aerogarden baskets, making them a compatible replacement to the aerogarden pod. They are a pH balanced plant sponge and contains micronutrients and active biological so they have all the elements needed to promote healthy root growth and young plant vigor.

Can you plant AeroGarden seed pods in soil?

Aerogarden kits include a base, pods (grow sponges with seeds in them) and grow lights. Aerogarden plants and herbs must get used to their new environment gradually once they are replanted into pots, so don’t plant them directly into the ground outdoors.

Can you reuse AeroGarden grow sponges?

No. You can not reuse the sponges. The roots will grow through the sponge.

How many seeds do you put in an Aerogarden?

About 6 seeds per pod for smaller seeds and 3-5 for larger seeds. Although AG recommends that you do not thin herbs, some (like basil ) do better if you thin to 1 or 2 seedlings per pod. [1]

How long do Aerogarden seed pods last?

We guarantee germination of our seed kits for one year after purchase from any authorized seller. Generally, the seeds in a seed kit will remain viable for two years from the date of assembly if stored in a cool, dry location.
