Is IMR 4227 and H4227 the same?

H4227 and IMR4227 are not the same powders but W296/H110 are identical. From everything I’ve read H4227 was switched over to IMR4227 and even though the name IMR4227 is still alive the original IMR4227 powder is no more. The current IMR4227 is really H4227 relabeled.

Is IMR 4227 a ball powder?

The difference between H110/w296 and IMR 4227 is that 4227 is more of a flake powder, where H110/W296 is a ball. Thats why you can compress 4227 so much more. Ball powders are designed to have air gaps, think of stacking balls instead of cubes.

How much powder does a 45-70 take?

45-70 Government cartridge loading fired a 405 grain bullet propelled by a powder charge of 70 grains of black powder in a copper case.

Is IMR 4227 Good for 9mm?

both charges are compressed & VERY low pressure so there will likely be unburned powder & odd ignition results. I would imagine it will go bang & the bullet will leave the barrel, but it’s not an optimal powder in any circumstance for 9mm.

What is IMR 4350 powder used for?

An extruded powder, IMR 4350 is primarily used for the newest short magnum cartridges in the industry but also used for silhouette shooting. Also for magnums with light to medium bullet weights, IMR 4350 is the best choice.

Why is 45-70 ammo so expensive?

The demand for 5.56Nato is way higher than 45/70 so there is far more 5.56 being made. The cost therefor goes down somewhat in respect to the small demand for 45/70. The bean counters figure that they can make way more on the volume of 5.56 and if the 45/70 guys want ammo, well they’ll have to pay for it.
